Nicholas Clayton
Senior Partner

Senior Partner Nicholas Clayton is one of the founding members of Information Transfer. He maintains that the company's long-time theme "getting the right information to the people who need it, in the form that they can use most easily" will always be fundamental. A primary interest is in the analysis and structuring of information, particularly for clients in the financial sector and professional services.

Nicholas advises on and produces enterprise-wide compliance training solutions to help large professional services organisations meet their regulatory obligations. The output may be an e-learning programme or an online look-up facility, or a blended approach incorporating screen-based and printed materials. Companies appreciate Nicholas' years of experience in rapidly assimilating their needs and delivering a practical solution, often within challenging time-frames.

Interactive, web-based resources now make even the most complex and technical information easy to store and deliver, but to be truly usable the material must be well-structured and the interface well thought-out.

Educated in the sciences with a plan to read medicine, Nicholas diverted to a take degree in English. Specialisation in the Anglo-Saxon and medieval period led to some years working in field archaeology, aerial surveys and photo-interpretation. 'In both of these you have to analyse, identify key data, interpret it and find the best way to communicate it to others: exactly what Information Transfer is all about. My zig-zag history also shows that there is no obvious career path for people who want to work for us. An enquiring mind, willingness to be interested in any area of work, imagination and a wish to communicate.'

Nicholas' other interests relate to the physical or mechanical world in contrast to the digital environment. They include landscape history, gardening, music but especially the creations of ingenious craftsmen: elegant hand-made mechanisms such as old clocks and automata.
