Information Transfer celebrates 30 years at the heart of technology-enabled learning
November 04, 2011
Information Transfer celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Since the company was founded at the end of 1981 we have been active participants in the application of technology for workplace learning, from the dynamic early years of “computer-based training” to the cutting edge solutions that drive the industry today.
Abbott Europe had begun equipping their field force with “portable” computers as far back as the early 1980s. We were able to convince them of the potential value of these new devices for distance learning. We believe this was one of the the earliest applications of commercial CBT in the UK. It was also the start of a thread of innovation in learning technology that Information Transfer has maintained to this day.

"From classroom PowerPoint to effective e-learning"
February 2, 2011
Andrew Smart, Director of Project Management, Magnox South, presented at the Learning Technologies Conference 26th January
In 2009 Magnox South, contracted to defuel and decommission five of the UK's nuclear power stations, compiled a one-week long classroom course (more than 360 PowerPoint slides) to instruct project managers in the company's processes and the statutory requirements affecting the highly-regulated nuclear industry. Although it did the job, five days off-site was less than ideal for these crucial staff. Working with Information Transfer, Andrew Smart's alternative has been to develop a blended approach to this delivery, with much of the knowledge component delivered as e-learning. The 12 modules of e-learning that replaced the massive slide deck have been both effective in knowledge transfer and well received by learners. How did Magnox achieve this?
